Day 16 to Granada

We went east along the coast for awhile in the morning. Jan wanted more beach time. There are beautiful empty beaches all along the coast. We stopped for awhile. Jan was disappointed as there were no shells.

We then headed up into the mountains. There is a mountain range coming right out of the sea that has mountains over 11,000 feet high. We followed some real small lines on the map to some small towns. They were way up on the sides of the hills down tight, steep twisty roads. We saw some beautiful country but before we got back to civilization we had driven for 4 ½ hours down the little roads. Most of that time was in second gear at 40 to 50 kph. The roads were so narrow that it was hard to squeeze past oncoming traffic.

The towns, the houses and the stores were a lot different than any we had seen in Spain. There is a huge Moorish influence and you could see the African character in everything.

We are staying tonight in a hotel in Granada. We will be here for two nights. It is not a Parador, just an ordinary hotel. But nice.
