Day one

Had a great flight over. American Airlines does a good job. We had good food, free cokes, free pillows and all the stuff some other airlines charge for. They arrived on time and didn’t lose our baggage.

I got my regular terrific rate from Hertz, about $600 for 3 weeks and they upgraded me to an Astra 1.7 with a stick shift. Getting out of the airport with the traffic, all the unfamiliar signs, dropping us right on a toll road and a car that I can’t  figure out how to adjust the mirrors is always a little unnerving but after a few miles all was well.

We visited two old towns with castles and went to the parador in Siguenza for our first night. I got some sleep on the plane and felt great but Jan kept falling asleep. She was asleep in our room by 6pm. She will be awake about 3am.

Our Parador is wonderful. It is an old fortress that was built in the 12th century. It has been updated since then and is a 5 star hotel now. See the photos. The second photo is a view from our balcony into the courtyard. The last two are the outside of the parador.

Off to Barcelona tomorrow.
